HOW TO USE A GEOBENDER® CUBE?
The transformation of the cubes can be more difficult than it seems. There are over 70 possible configurations and some are easier to reach than others. This page is intended to help the beginner in the first steps to master this puzzle.
OPEN THE CUBE
The GeoBender® Cube can only be opened at 2 of its 8 corners. You have to open the three points in this corner and the Cube will snap into shape 2. If you pull both corners simultaneously, the cube will snap into the star (Form # 3).
CLOSING THE GEOCUBE
There is a trick to close the cube – it is not the reverse of the opening!
The reversal of the initial movement ends in a locked form. You can overcome this barrier by opening an additional joint.
THE MAIN FORMS
When you transform the cube, you will automatically find forms of particular beauty and symmetry. I call these the main forms.
I have named them for ease of use, but please do not hesitate to come up with your own system:
THE MAIN SERIES
The next step in the exploration of the GeoBender® Cube is the order in which the shapes can be achieved and which transformations are necessary to do so. Each line in the following diagram shows a movement/transformation. The cube and the star are close together, while the cube and Half Dome are on the opposite sides of the transformation.
THE TRANSFORMATION TREE
The last step in unlocking the capabilities of the GeoBender® Cube is to realize all the different shapes and the order in which they can be created. I summarized my results in the picture on the right.
The cube is located as Form # 1 in the upper center of the diagram.
Each line represents a single, direct transformation.
There are some hidden links within the transformation structure, as well as some additional shapes that are not displayed. These are for the curious spirit to discover!
